Complaints Against Businesses

The Office of the Corporation Counsel (OCC) compiles a Consumer Complaint Disclosure Report based on complaints filed with the OCC. The report shows the total number and status of complaints filed against a business with the OCC since April of 2003. The data is updated monthly. Select the following link to view the report: Please bear in mind that except for the complaints coded "Legal Action," the fact that a complaint is reported against a business does not mean that the OCC has made a determination as to the truth of the allegations. By the same token, the fact that the OCC has received few or no complaints against a business should not, standing alone, be taken as an indication that the business is honest and reputable. A business's complaint history is just one indication of a business's reliability. Therefore, this information should not be taken as either an endorsement or criticism of the business. You may also want to call the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs at (202) 442-4400 to find out if the business is licensed to do business within the District of Columbia.

The report total includes both closed and open complaints. The complaint information is deemed to be reliable, but we cannot guarantee the accuracy and completeness of the information. Any information that is shown to be inaccurate will be corrected if brought to the attention of the OCC.

There are limitations to the complaint data. Complaint totals for businesses can be affected by business volume, location, or the nature of the business. Some complaints may be unjustified or minor in nature.

Please contact us if you have any questions about the information presented on the Consumer Complaint Disclosure Report page.
